Bindingarts’s Blog

I’m a native New Yorker (no, not upstate) that moved to Ohio in 1996 to marry a college friend after a 21-year hiatus.  (Our first dance was to the theme of “Green Acres.”)  While attempting to adjust to my new “life” in Mount Gilead, in 1997 I took a book-making workshop in Cleveland for its therapeutic value.  Realizing that $150 per hour for professional counseling could best be put to use in paper, I began to fill every room in the house (it’s cheaper than furniture, too) and began making one of a kind books.  I’ve since attended three PBIs, began painting, photography and exploring digitally produced limited editions.

I live by the following two quotes: Art is the closest thing to running away without leaving homeTwyla Tharp and Hearts starve as well as bodies, give us bread but give us roses– James Oppenheim

Realizing the healing power of art, I bring book arts workshops (“roses”) to seriously ill adults, grieving families and troubled youth to “escape,” build self-esteem and provide a means of self expression.

I also teach at my studio and a variety of other venues including museums and colleges.  .
